Mozart Requiem
February 22, 2024
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s final composition, Requiem, was finished after his death by his student Franz Xaver Süssmayr. According to his wife, Constanze Mozart, the ailing composer had come to believe he was writing the piece, initially commissioned by a German count, to be played at his own funeral — and indeed some sections were. Requiem was later performed at the funerals and commemorative services of Ludwig van Beethoven, Joseph Haydn, and Frédéric Chopin.
Centuries later in 1960, “scraps of paper” containing Mozart’s unrealized ideas were discovered, prompting new versions of the Requiem.
Join us for Robert Levin's scholarly completion of this celebrated and emotionally stirring choral masterpiece, featuring Downtown Voices with The Choir of Trinity Wall Street.

Jazz Icons: Bobby Watson
February 11, 2024
Jazz icon Bobby Watson, in collaboration with JAZZ HOUSE KiDS, presented a special concert in Trinity Church.
Prolific saxophonist, composer, and educator Bobby Watson sits among the pantheon of jazz greats. As a bandleader, Watson has released numerous highly acclaimed albums, including Love Remains, Post-Motown Bop, and Tailor Made. He has played alongside Max Roach, Branford and Wynton Marsalis, John Hicks, and many other jazz pioneers. During his years as musical director for Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, Watson contributed to fourteen recordings — more than anyone else in the group’s storied thirty-five-year history.
To this dynamic and supercharged concert, Watson brings an all-star band including Wallace Roney Jr., trumpet, Orrin Evans, piano, Essiet Okon Essiet, bass, and Victor Jones, drums.
