Five Ways Into Sunday’s Scripture: Mark 10

This week’s Gospel reading is a familiar and tough reading for those of us who live with more than just our basic needs, who seem to lack nothing. It highlights how our attachment to possessions keeps us from following Jesus and serving others — our true treasure and calling as Christians. This is a difficult message. Yet, the good news is that, “For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible.” God is always calling us to shed what separates us from one another and from the Holy One.

Grantee Spotlight: Codrington College, Barbados

Codrington College's 2020 conference, "Leadership Innovation: Faith, Values, and Skills for the Church and the World," was an opportunity to build dialogue, exchange ideas, propose practical projects to integrate learning from secular and religious leadership development programs, and accelerate the implementation of leadership development in the context of theological education. It was a successful exercise in a last-minute pivot to convert a planned in-person conference to a virtual convening due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This Sunday, September 19 — Celebration Sunday — I’m anticipating another joyful day when we meet in person again for the 8am Holy Eucharist and the 9am Holy Eucharist, both at Trinity Church, the 9:15am Family Service, which is moving to the Parish Hall at Trinity Commons, and the 8pm Compline by Candlelight, which is moving to Trinity Church.
