Auditions

Youth Choir

Come sing with us at Trinity!

Trinity Church’s musical reach extends far beyond its culture of stellar performances. We have an equally proud tradition of music education, which extends from Peppercorns for ages K–5 through St. Paul’s Chapel Choir and Trinity’s Downtown Voices for adults.

If you’re interested in sharpening your choral skills, consider auditioning for one of our celebrated ensembles.

St. Paul’s Chapel Choir

The St. Paul’s Chapel Choir brings together people who love to sing and who want to be part of a warm and welcoming community. Auditions are simple and low-pressure; they include singing a song or hymn of your choice, participating in a pitch-matching exercise, and sight-reading a few simple lines of music in the key of C.

Trinity Downtown Voices

Trinity Downtown Voices, our semiprofessional choir, accepts audition requests from high-level volunteer singers.

All applicants are required to submit a video sample of their singing. After a screening process, successful applicants will be invited to audition in person. These auditions will include sight-reading from a four-part hymn, singing a prepared choral piece, and performing an aria or art song of the singer’s choosing.

Trinity Youth Chorus

Celebrating its 20th season, the Trinity Youth Chorus offers group training in vocal technique, music theory, sight-reading, and performance to young singers in grades K-12. Choristers help lead music at Sunday services and collaborate with Trinity Choir, NOVUS, and the Trinity Baroque Orchestra at concerts throughout the year.

Peppercorn and Junior Choristers (Grades K-5)

We welcome all young people in grades K-5 — regardless of their musical experience or background — into our Peppercorn (grades K-2) and Junior (grades 3-5) training choirs. The prerequisites for the younger choirs are an interest in singing and commitment to attend weekly rehearsals. Please contact Trinity’s lead teaching artist Shanna Whitney for information about availability and enrollment.

Senior Choristers (Grades 6-12)

Entrance into Senior Choristers is by audition. At the audition, the director will evaluate each student’s singing ability, understanding of music theory, and sight-singing skills, followed by a written music theory assessment. Students may prepare a short song to present, but it is not a requirement. A weekly theory lab is offered to students who require additional instruction in sight-singing and music theory. Auditions are offered throughout the year, but many choristers join at the beginning of the school year and at the start of the new calendar year. To make an appointment, fill out the form below or contact Director of Music Melissa Attebury

Schola Choristers (Grades 9-12)

Eligible Senior Choristers are invited by the director to audition for Schola Choristers. Choristers must demonstrate advanced vocal technique, theory and sight-singing skills, and a commitment to attending additional rehearsals and performances.
