Reflections from Standing Rock

On Sunday December 4, at the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced it had denied a permit to construct the Dakota Access Pipeline. Native Americans have led a seven-month long protest against the pipeline because of potential environmental hazards and desecration of tribal lands and the Rev. Winnie Varghese, a priest of Trinity Church Wall Street, who had joined an earlier protest, happened to be back at Standing Rock when the permit was denied.
