Comfort at One: Poulenc's Figure Humaine

April 20, 2021

What is known as Poulenc’s most challenging choral work, Figure Humaine embodies great suffering and oppression, juxtaposed with the hope for freedom from tyranny. Performing this masterpiece with only 12 voices brought a new intimacy to the music and presented a unique opportunity for the artists to connect and grow as an ensemble. Poulenc was artistic directed and conducted by associate director of music Melissa Attebury. This clip contains Movement 16: Le jour m’étonne et la nuit me fait peur.
