Lisa Benenson Joins Trinity Church Wall Street as Chief Communications Officer

NEW YORK, May 16, 2023 - Trinity Church Wall Street today announced the appointment of Lisa Benenson as Chief Communications Officer. Benenson will serve on Trinity's executive management team and lead the organization’s communications strategies and initiatives.

“Lisa's extensive experience in nonprofit communications, combined with her strategic vision and leadership skills, make her a wonderful addition to the Trinity team,” said the Rev. Phillip A. Jackson, Rector of Trinity Church Wall Street. “We are thrilled to welcome her.”

Benenson joins Trinity Church from the Brennan Center for Justice, where she served as vice president for communications and strategy. She was previously at the United Nations, as the deputy director of global communications for UNICEF. In her new role, Benenson will help lead and promote Trinity’s continued work in New York City and in the service of the church’s global partners in the Anglican Communion.

“It’s an honor to serve this extraordinary church and join in its powerful tradition of living faith,” said Benenson.  “I’ve long been an admirer of Trinity’s efforts to build community and work for justice and equity, both in New York City, and globally.”

Prior to her positions at Brennan Center and UNICEF, she was Chief Communications Officer at the Natural Resources Defense Council. Before beginning her work in nonprofits, Benenson was a journalist, working in executive roles and as an editor and reporter at Newsweek and The Daily Beast, Hallmark Magazine, Working Mother and Working Woman magazines, Newsday, and The Denver Post. She was also a contributor for NBC's Today Show and has appeared on other national broadcast programs.

Benenson is a board member at Polaris, a leading nonprofit in the fight to eradicate human trafficking.
