For more than 100 years, the Church of the Intercession, formerly a Trinity chapel, has hosted a reading of "A Visit from St. Nicholas," better known as ’Twas the Night Before Christmas. This year represents a milestone for this Christmas classic: it’s been 200 years since the poem was first published, anonymously, in an upstate New York newspaper.

The reading this year, by Dr. Vincent Boudreau, president of The City College of New York, will be followed by a procession to Trinity's neighboring Uptown Cemetery for a brief memorial at the grave of Clement Clarke Moore, author of the poem, followed by a reception at Trinity Church Cemetery and Mausoleum.

Dr. Vincent Boudreau was appointed president of The City College of New York by the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York in December 2017. Before his appointment, he served as founding director and founding dean of the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at City College New York. A specialist in the politics of social movements, he is a professor of political science at City College and a member of the City University of New York graduate faculty.

Clement Clarke Moore (1779–1863) was the son of Dr. Benjamin Moore, the sixth rector of Trinity Church Wall Street. In 1822, as a Christmas gift to his six children, Clement Clarke Moore wrote the poem that became a classic for all to cherish.
