Little Children: Christian Spirituality in Picture Books with the Rev. Canon K. Jeanne Person
Children’s picture books with biblical, religious, and spiritual themes and gorgeous illustrations can offer lovely ways of imagining God and talking about Jesus. Might a spiritual practice of praying with these picture books enliven one to become like a little child who will inherit and help to build God’s reign? This retreat will invite you to explore the richness of child-like spirituality through young children’s religious literature. What makes for a theologically profound children’s book? How can we pray such texts and illustrations?
This online retreat is offered by the Rev. Canon K. Jeanne Person, an Episcopal priest who is a trained co-wonderer in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program for children’s spiritual formation and has taught courses in the spiritual guidance of children at General Seminary. For nearly four decades, she has built a personal library of children’s religious picture books. The retreat will present some of her favorites for adults and children alike.
This free retreat will take place over five half-hour sessions via the Trinity Retreat Center Facebook page throughout the weekend at these times; all times are Eastern. Registration is not required.
