Join Mary Davenport, the Rev. Dr. Mark Francisco Bozzuti-Jones, and Joseph Rose for an online retreat exploring the themes of Lent and the Gospel readings for the Sundays during this season of penitential preparation for Easter.

Early Christians observed “a season of penitence and fasting” in preparation for the Paschal feast, or Pascha (BCP, pp. 264-265). The season now known as Lent—from the Old English word meaning “spring,” the time of lengthening days—is recognized for its 40-day fast. The fast was especially important for converts preparing for baptism and those guilty of notorious sins who were being restored to the Christian assembly.

Using the Book of Common Prayer's Litany of Penitence (pp. 267-269) and the Sunday Gospel readings in Lent, join us in journeying more deeply with Jesus during this season. Turn to the Lord. Be renewed in heart and spirit. How do we keep our heart and mind on the things that lead us to new life in Christ? How do we repent and live in the light of the Lord? How do the gospels for the Sundays in Lent call us to a time of renewal, prayer, and repentance?

This free retreat will take place over the weekend at these times; all Eastern. Registration is not required. All are welcome.
