Join Trinity Church and grantee partners for a virtual convening to discuss the facts on bail reform. Moderated by New York Theological Seminary’s Dr. LaKeesha Walrond, New York State legislators including Assembly Member Latrice Walker will talk about how the current bail laws work and the impact they are having. Guest speakers who are directly impacted by bail will also share their stories.

New York’s new bail law, which went into effect and was quickly amended in 2020, has undoubtedly changed New Yorkers’ lives for the better. People who would have been in jail because they couldn’t afford bail went home to their families and their jobs while awaiting trial. Across the state, communities benefited from increased investment in supportive services, not incarceration.

Despite its success, misinformation about the reformed bail law and its impact continues to surface, and it’s critical we know the facts.
This event will lift up what we know about bail reform in New York and provide a forum for legislative and faith leaders to discuss the facts and steps forward we can take together.

(ASL and captions will be provided during the event session.)
