Native American Experiences: A Film Series
Topahdewin: The Gladys Cook Story
Join Trinity’s Racial Justice & Education Affinity Group for a documentary film series centered on Native American stories past and present, curated and hosted by Janine Tinsley-Roe. Each screening will be followed by discussion of the film and other topics relating to the Native American experience.
- April 30: Topahdewin: The Gladys Cook Story | This film looks at the Canadian residential boarding school genocide through the lens of one woman’s personal experience.
- May 21: Invisible | This film explores the relationship between white and Native American communities in Maine. The interviews reveal a history of abuse and the resulting invisibility Native Americans experience in their homeland.
Janine Tinsley-Roe is a leader of the Shinnecock and Poospatuck Tribal Nations of Long Island. An outspoken voice for the history of her tribal family clan and civil rights for Native American people, she served as a Native American Ministry Missioner for The Episcopal Church.
Each screening will be followed by discussion of the film and other topics relating to the Native American experience. A program of Trinity Cares Reflection & Action.
