Hear Johann Pachelbel’s much-loved Canon in D major the way it was meant to be heard. Presented in its original instrumentation, with three violins, the piece is paired with a lively but oft-forgotten jig the composer wrote to complement it. The evening’s lineup spotlights the canon and includes pieces by Giovanni Gabrieli as well as Three Parts Upon a Ground by Henry Purcell.

Silent Light delves into the moral dilemmas faced by members of a Mennonite community as they grapple with forbidden love and the limitations of their restrictive society. Presented by Trinity in collaboration with National Sawdust — part of the Brooklyn venue’s 10th-anniversary celebration — the opera’s all-star cast includes tenor Anthony Dean Griffey, baritone Daniel Okulitch, and soprano Brittany Renee accompanied by NOVUS and the Trinity Choir.

Jazz at One: Vuyo Sotashe

Award-winning South African jazz vocalist Vuyo Sotashe opens the Jazz at One season. He has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center and was one of the first male singers to place in the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Vocal competition.  

This season’s Jazz at One, Long Walk to Freedom, is inspired by Nelson Mandela and the 30th anniversary of South African democracy. Presented in collaboration with JAZZ HOUSE KiDS.

Dr. Kristina Ziema Rizzotto is a sought-after organist, composer, and pianist who has performed her original sacred and secular works around the globe. She is the director of music at Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and was previously the organist at the Benedictine Abbey of Rio de Janeiro, built in 1590 and home to one of the oldest organs in South America. Her popular YouTube channel features more than 350+ organ, piano, and choral recordings.

Bach at One: Magnificat

Bach’s jubilant choral work comes to life

St. Paul's Chapel

Considered one of Christianity’s greatest statements of hope, the Magnificat is arguably Bach’s most popular choral work. Combining colorful orchestration with a large choir, the jubilant Magnificat is based on the Canticle of Mary from Luke’s gospel and centers on God’s love for the poor, humble, and oppressed.
