Thursday Sermon, The Rev. Elizabeth Blunt: "Jesus and the Leper: a Story for 2022"

January 13, 2022

“How profoundly do we long for a word of healing today in this time of sickness.” Preaching at our Thursday midday service, Mother Beth uses the story of Jesus and the leper to highlight “the daily challenge” for life during COVID: putting empathy and comfort at the top of our to-do list.

“His touch isn’t necessary for the miracle,” she offers. “It’s really the words that provide the cure. I think the touch teaches the lesson, which is the priority of compassion.” The readings are 1 Samuel 4:1c–11 and Mark 1:40–45.
