Maundy Thursday Sermon, The Rev. Elizabeth Blunt: “Just as I Have Loved You”
April 6, 2023
The ritual foot washing on Maundy Thursday can make some Christians nervous if not downright squeamish. In Jesus’ day even servants couldn’t be forced to wash the feet of others, but Mother Beth offers that participating in this “scandal of self-sacrificing love–which is the scandal of the cross–is necessary…because somehow in such humble service lies God’s glory.” Watch her sermon from our Maundy Thursday service here. The readings are 1 Corinthians 11:23–26; Psalm 116; and John 13:1–17, 31b–35.
