Family Service Sermon, The Rev. Yein Kim "One and Many Gifts"

May 28, 2023

Since the Day of Pentecost is considered the birthday of the Church, the Rev. Yein Kim included some details of a Korean tradition renewed on a baby’s first birthday: a tray of objects presented for the baby to grab. Yarn would represent longevity, rice symbolizes abundance, a stethoscope might signal that the child is a future physician; many gifts are offered, and individual choices are made.  Mother Yein says the custom reminds her of Pentecost: The Holy Spirit is a gift to all, but all who receive develop and share their own special talents. Watch her sermon. The reading is Acts 2:1–4.
