Whether confronting the legacy of historical white supremacy or exploring the effects of wage and wealth inequality, we are challenged to explore our social identities and related attachments in this time. We are invited to turn toward and take up our part of the work of minimizing socially created surplus suffering. How might our contemplative practice commitments assist us in confronting the changing nature of social engagement with the legacies of dominance in our culture?

During this online retreat exploring social justice, one of Trinity’s core values, we'll cultivate a community of practice infused with the space and support necessary for deepening our own engagements with racism and doing our part to reckon with the legacies of racism in our time. We will explore awareness and compassion practices (for self and others) that support us in working with identity-based suffering and doing the work of transformation on the personal, interpersonal, and systemic/collective levels, and discuss some of the challenges and opportunities in the work to come.

Retreat leader Rhonda V. Magee is a Professor of Law at the University of San Francisco School of Law and the author and teacher of The Inner Work of Racial Justice: Healing Ourselves and Transforming Our Communities Through Mindfulness
